THIS IS HARDCORE Preview: Terror, From The Frontlines To Philly.

July 31, 2012

This is Hardcore 2012 is fast approaching. Last week, Bree Wood had an email conversation with Scott Vogel of the LA band Terror. They were on tour but they’ll play the TIHC opener on Thursday, August 9 at Union Transfer with Earth Crisis, Naysayer, Ringworm and more. See here for details.

BTW … Vogel responded in all caps, so we left it that way.

How’s tour been? Are you currently in Australia or New Zealand?

I’M IN AUCKLAND, NEW ZEALAND WITH ONE MORE SHOW AND WE FLY BACK TO THE USA. EVERYTHING IS GREAT MAN. AWESOME SHOWS. HC IS STRONG HERE AND IN AUSTRALIA. LIFE’S GOOD. CHECK OUT WARBRAIN, SURVIVAL AND IRON MIND. GOOD YOUNGER BANDS.

What can people expect or look forward to this year from your bands set at This is Hardcore?

IT WILL BE TERROR – OLD SONGS AND NEW. THERE REALLY ISN’T MUCH TO SAY. NOTHING HAS CHANGED AND WE DON’T HAVE ANY GIMMICK. WE’RE NOT GOING TO PLAY “LOWEST OF THE LOW” FROM START TO FINISH.  HA HA HA. IT WILL JUST BE A GOOD POSITIVE SET FROM A BAND THAT IS STILL ON THE FRONTLINES OF THE SCENE EVERYDAY.

People love collecting merch at TIHC. Anything new to expect?

WE’LL HAVE THE KEEPERS OF THE FAITH LP ON VINYL. THAT’S THE MOST IMPORTANT THING WE’LL HAVE.

Tell us about the CD/DVD No Regrets, No Shame, which came out in April. Can people get it at TIHC?

WE SHOULD HAVE THAT ON VINYL TOO. IT CAME OUT REALLY COOL. BIG UPS TO B9 FOR PUTTING IT OUT: OLD TERROR- RAW TERROR- FUN TERROR. IT WAS COOL WORKING WITH IAN FROM BLOOD FOR BLOOD. IT WAS COOL TO REMEMBER THOSE SONGS AND THAT TIME WHEN EVERY DAY WAS A NEW EXPERIENCE.

Any plans for a new album release?

EARLY 2013. LIVE BY THE CODE. IT’S RECORDED AND WE ARE FUCKING HYPED. IT FEELS GREAT TO HAVE A NEW RECORD ON ICE READY TO EXPLODE.

What’s your favorite spot in Philly to visit? Food, someone’s house, park, etc.?

I LIKE IT WHEN JOE HC AND ME GET SOME TIME TO TALK CORE. IF RICHIE KRUTCH IS THERE THAT’S GREAT TOO. I SAW A FLYERS GAME. THAT WAS COOL. I SAW ALLEN IVERSON IN THE MALL ONCE. MY FRIEND JENELLE USED TOO LIVE THERE. SHE’S COOL. WE GET DRUNK AND PUNCH EACH OTHER.

When was your first TIHC?

MAN, I WANNA SAY WE DEF PLAYED THE FIRST YEAR. WE HAD TO HAVE, RIGHT? BUT MY MEMORY IS SO BAD. I CAN TELL YOU LAST YEAR I HATED THE SUNDAY SHOW WALK FROM THE HOTEL TO THE CLUB. IT WAS RAINING AND I WAS LIKE I’M NOT GETTING A CAB. IT’S A 5 MIN WALK. THEN MOTHER NATURE TURNED THE RAIN UP AND BY THE TIME I GOT TO THE VENUE I WAS SOAKED BIG TIME. NOT FUN!!!!!!!!

Do you have a favorite TIHC moment?

YES. THREE YEARS AGO, SEEING WISDOM IN CHAINS PLAY “LAND OF THE KINGS” WITH LIKE 500 KIDS SINGING ALONG. GAVE ME CHILLS FOR MINUTES STRAIGHT. I LOVE HC. CLOSELY FOLLOWED BY THE REACH THE SKY’S SET LAST YEAR. THAT WAS SO FUCKING FUN. SO MANY OF MY OLD FRIENDS SMILING AND RECONNECTING THROUGH A BAND I SET UP EVERY WEEKEND WITH IN THE LATE 90S AND EVERY SHITTY CLUB IN THE USA.

What are you looking forward to this year at TIHC?

WE PLAY THURSDAY AND GET ON A PLANE TO EUROPE FRIDAY AND START A TOUR THERE. FUCKING LAME.

What’s your role in the hardcore scene back home?

I’M IN TERROR. I HAVE A PROJECT BAND CALLED S.O.S.. I DO A FANZINE CALLED BORN TO EXPIRE. I GO TO SHOWS AND SUPPORT THEM ALL THE TIME. MY ROOMMATE PATRICK DOES REAPER RECORDS AND HAS HALO SCEENPRINTING, SO ITS PRETTY MUCH HC 24/7. WITH MOVIES AND GOOD MEALS IN BETWEEN.

Anything else you want people to know?

WARZONE. “DON’T FORGET THE STRUGGLE:”

It’s been a few years now. We’re going strong We’ve been through a lot of good and bad. Some gave up. They had no heart. For you and me, this world won’t tear us apart. From the East Coast to the West Coast. Inside myself. I can hear the screams. The style – all over It may be different – but in our hearts, it’s all the same Don’t forget the struggle. Don’t forget the streets. Don’t forget your roots. And don’t sell out! What the fuck has happened to you? You think you’re a rock star? You’re trapped inside a cage. You’re ego trip has brainwashed you. You forgot the past. Now your future won’t last. It won’t last. Street kids had your back right from the start. Played your music day and night. For what you stood for, they would even fight. Now your eyes have turned fire red to money green. They’ve turned fire red to money green. Never give in to any of their fuckin’ shit.

Once again Scott, thanks for taking the time to do the interview. See you at TIHC.

IN THE PIT I HOPE.
